To provide compact, solar-powered UV water purification solutions that make safe drinking water accessible, affordable, and environmentally sustainable for vulnerable communities.
Our work started in August 2023. After researching plastic waste in slums, I found that 7 out of 10 bottles were for drinking water. I realized that solving safe water access could have a much greater impact than recycling alone. Since then, we have built over 12 prototypes and tested our solution with families in local slums, seeing an immediate reduction in illness.
Our innovation lies in combining affordable solar-powered UV-LED technology with a modular, easy-to-repair configuration designed specifically for isolated off-grid communities.
Founder, CEO of UV Safisha
Over 2,500,000 people in communities, refugee settlements, schools, and health facilities in rural Eastern and Northern Uganda lack access to safe drinking water. Many rely on open or stagnant sources, exposing them to waterborne diseases like diarrhea and dysentery.
Our devices use patented 254nm UV-LED technology combined with multistage filtration to purify water from stagnant sources instantly.
Powered by a 6-watt solar panel, the device operates in off-grid areas, treating up to 180 liters on a single charge.
Designed for self-repair, each component is easily replaceable at an average cost of only €5.
Hybrid Power
Works on both solar energy and standard grid electricity.
Smart Sensors
Integrated sensors detect water turbidity, flow rate, and component effectiveness.
We collaborate with NGOs, schools, health facilities, and government programs to make sustainable water purification a reality for underserved communities.
